Anthony Joshua beats Andy Ruiz Jr to win back heavyweight world titles

Having suffered one of the biggest upsets in boxing history back in June in New York City, AJ came back and regained his titles in Saudi Arabia.

The judges scored it 118-110, 118-110 and 119-109 following 12 rounds. Joshua put on a tactical performance to earn back his WBA, IBF, IBO and WBO heavyweight titles.

In June at Madison Square Garden, Ruiz (33-1, 22 KOs) pulled off one of the biggets upsets in recent memory. As a 15-1 underdog and taking the bout on short notice, Ruiz scored four knockdowns, including two in the seventh round to force a TKO, and he became the first-ever fighter of Mexican descent to capture heavyweight gold.

Joshua (22-1, 21 KOs) didn’t waste too much time invoking his right to a rematch and the chance to become a two-time unified heavyweight champion.

Joshua was favored at -220 odds to win the rematch, while many wondered if Ruiz’s win in their first meeting was just a fluke.
