ISIS claims London Bridge attack was carried out by one of its fighters

ISIS has claimed the London Bridge terror attack was carried out by one of its fighters.

The terrorist organisation said Usman Khan, who killed two people and injured more during a knife rampage on Friday, acted on their behalf.

The group relayed the information through its news agency Amaq in a post that was published on the TamTam and Telegram app.

The convicted terrorist been attending a conference at Fishmongers’ Hall about prisoner rehabilitation when he began the violence. initially threatened to blow up the building before he began attacking those in attendance, using at least one knife.

He was eventually forced out of the building, with several members of the public giving chase before armed police intervened to shoot Khan dead on the north end of London Bridge.

ISIS took responsibility via its own news agency.

The group claimed the attack was carried out in response to the UK’s ongoing involvement in conflicts in the Middle East.

They said: “The person who carried out the London attack… was a fighter from the Islamic State, and did so in response to calls to target citizens of coalition countries.”

ISIS has yet to provide any evidence confirming their involvement in the attack. Khan had been living in Staffordshire prior to the incident.

He was previously sentenced to 16 years in prison for his role in a plot to bomb the London Stock Exchange and a terrorist training camp.

While in prison Khan wrote a letter asking his lawyer to help him enrol in a deradicalisation course so he could become a ‘good British citizen’.

He was released after serving just seven years of his sentence.
