PDP candidates are grassroots politicians, not billboards candidates – Chairman

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Katsina State, Salisu Majigiri, says the party’s candidates are grassroots politicians who emerged through a democratic process and not billboard candidates.

Mr Majigiri stated in Katsina during the inauguration of a youth group, “PDP Sa Wuta”, that is expected to secure at least 500,000 votes for the party’s candidates during the 2019 general elections in the state.

He said that the candidates were not only visible on billboards, but also had support of voters at grassroots level across the state.

“They said that they are contesting with billboards candidates.

“I want to tell them that PDP doesn’t have billboards candidates, but grassroots politicians who started politics from councillorship up to what they are contesting for now.

The Coordinator of the group, Gambo Mai-Walda, said that they were targeting 100 votes in each of the 4,901 poling units for the 2019 polls in the state.

Mr Mai-Walda said the group had 25,000 members who would execute the task.

According to him, each of them would solicit support for votes of at least 20 voters in their respective areas.

He said that the members would keep in touch with the people up to the time of the election for the attainment of the set target.

Recall that the Chairman, Campaign Council for Gov. Aminu Masari re-election, Mustapha Inuwa, had said that candidates of opposition political parties in Katsina State only existed on billboards.

Mr Inuwa said this during the flag-off of the campaign for the re-election of the governor in Funtua on Dec. 29.

He said the billboards would not intimidate the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state during the forthcoming general elections.

“We have the people, we are only contesting with billboards.

“People are in support of our party’s candidates,” he said.

He said the people of the state would vote for Governor Masari for a second term in 2019 because he had fulfilled his campaign promises he made to them in 2015.
